Snap a meal lets you take or upload a photo of your food and get instant, heart-focused feedback. No calorie counting. No judgment. A quick look at what's already going well, and one easy idea to make it even better.
How do I use Snap a meal?
- After logging into the Hello Heart app, tap on the plus sign at the bottom of the screen.
-
Select the option for “Snap a meal”. You’ll then have the option to take a photo or upload a photo from your photo library of your meal.
- If you select “Take a photo”, you will need to allow Hello Heart to access your camera. Select “Next” and then “Allow” to give permission.
- If you select “Upload a photo”, you will need to allow Hello Heart to access your photo library. Select “Next” and choose either “Allow Full Access” or “Limit Access”, depending on what you would like to share.
-
Depending on your selection, the camera will open to take a photo or you can select the photo from your photo library.
- For best results: Capture the full meal, frame your plate, make sure there's good lighting, and take the photo at a slight angle.
- Feel free to add more details in the description box underneath the photo.
-
Nia will analyze it and share feedback on your meal.
Why is the app asking for camera or photo access?
Nia needs access to your camera or photo library to analyze your meal. The app asks for permission the first time. You can change this at any time in your phone's Settings.
What kind of feedback will I get?
After analyzing your photo, Nia shares:
- What it sees on your plate.
- Your heart wins or what's already working well.
- Ways to make it better. One swap and one addition.
- A follow-up question to keep the conversation going.
Does Snap a meal count calories or track macros?
No. Snap a meal is focused on heart health, not calorie counting or macros. Nia won't log everything or keep a running total. It just helps you see how this meal connects to your heart.
What if Nia can't recognize my food?
If the photo isn't clear enough, Nia may ask a follow-up question to give better feedback. The camera screen will suggest capturing the full meal, good lighting, and a slight angle.
Can Nia replace my doctor?
No. Nia is a virtual assistant, not a live person, designed to increase your awareness, education, and empowerment around your heart health. Nia cannot make a diagnosis or make medical decisions. It also can't recommend starting, stopping, or adjusting medications. For urgent, serious situations that need a diagnosis, your doctor or pharmacist is the right person to talk to. Nia is powered by a rules-based artificial intelligence (AI) system that analyzes the health data entered by you in the Hello Heart app to give you relevant, personalized information.
Will Nia ever tell me to call 911?
Nia is not designed for emergencies. If you require immediate medical attention, please contact emergency services or your healthcare provider regarding any urgent concerns.
