Understanding Your Stress & Sleep Screens

Stress and sleep screens in Hello Heart will be viewable if you are using a compatible wearable device and you have connected it properly. For more information visit this article: Using Wearable Data with Hello Heart

Please note: for the time being, this feature is only available on an iOS device through Apple Health.

Understanding Your Stress Screen

Your stress levels are calculated using your heart-rate variability (HRV). This serves as a general wellbeing and recovery signal rather than a medical diagnosis. You can access it as a tab within your tracker to open a full-screen overview.

Your four stress levels

Stress level What it means for you
Relaxed Good recovery / low physiological stress
Mild Slightly elevated stress
Moderate Noticeably elevated stress
Elevated High physiological stress / low recovery

As a rule of thumb: Higher HRV means you are more relaxed, while lower HRV indicates higher stress.

What you will see on your screen

  • A 4-week stress summary highlighting your average stress level.
  • A colour-coded, segmented circular chart showing the percentage of time you spend in each of the four levels (adding up to 100%).
  • Tailored contextual tips that adjust based on your current level (for example, when Relaxed, you may be prompted to take a baseline BP reading).
  • A “Here's what it means” section explaining your result, alongside a “What can you do about it?” section with actionable tips and guided breathing exercises.
  • If you are eligible for Nia, an entry point allowing you to chat with Nia about how your stress relates to your blood pressure.
  • A medical disclaimer at the bottom reminding you that these insights are not a substitute for professional medical care.

What if I see a lock signal on my stress tab?

A lock icon means you haven't authorized the required stress signals (HRV) yet. Tapping it starts the standard re-permission flow. If you've already granted permission but no data has synced, you'll instead see an info (i) icon that opens a short explanation of why data isn't showing yet.

Please note: for the time being, this feature is only available on an iOS device through Apple Health.

Understanding Your Sleep Screen

The Sleep feature displays your weekly average sleep time, calculated directly from your Apple Health sleep logs. You can access this via a dedicated tab in your tracker, which opens into a full-screen view.

How your sleep data is calculated

  • Your average sleep duration is calculated over the last 7 days using sleep logs synced from Apple Health.
  • Sleep data is gathered directly from your wearable or phone via Apple Health; Hello Heart does not record sleep measurements directly.

What you will see

  • Your weekly average sleep duration right on your tab.
  • A detailed breakdown and context when you tap to expand to full screen.

If your sleep tab shows no data

If sleep data isn't showing, it usually stems from a few common reasons: permissions haven't been granted, no wearable is synced with Apple Health, your wearable doesn't track sleep, or the latest data hasn't synced yet. Simply not wearing your device to sleep is the most common reason for missing data. For more information visit this article: Using Wearable Data with Hello Heart.
